Halfling Sauce (Session 38)

SESSION 38: What are Halflings Good for Anyway? (12Jan17)

Having finished stripping the now smoldering re-corpsed corpse of its fineries and dressing some hobo in the still warm plate, we press on. Fell back to the Mongrelmen encampment to recharge. Later, working into some tombs there were rats, then giant rats and finally a bunch of ghouls starved for flesh. This led to a darkened room with a pile of purpling tomb robbers and their sacks of spoils. The reason for their purpleness is that they were being aged by the resident scorpions of un-natural size. They didn’t take the intrusion to their larder well and chopped Odo into a number of pieces and nearly loaded Mar with poison, if he wasn’t so agile. Taking the treasure and leaving the mess they moved on.

Eventually coming to a room with a mirror on a pedestal as its centre-piece and a pile of runic tablets in the corner. “Hot ding-dongs!”, drooled Ding-We at the prospect of reading more tablets “The knowledge of everything must be mine!” Krisko was sent in to take a look. He approached the mirror, when his eye glanced at the surface of the mirror a pit appeared beneath his feet, he fell into it. As a matter of fact he is still falling, best of luck in that bottomless pit you festering ankle biter. The triggering of this magical trap also caused the pile of tablets to glow and then rise into the shape of a humanoid giant. This runic golem was going to make Ding-We fight to get his reading in. The creature lunged towards the party, Ding-We and Calvin jumping on its back in an effort to read tablets as the rest of the horde met the golem head-on. The fight raged, a couple of tablets were read. Finally the party beat the golem into dust. “Nooooo”, lamented Ding-We as he grabbed handfuls of destroyed tablets “Yessss” as his hands discovered three more tablets buried in the wreckage. He read another, maybe two. A strange look came across his face, “well I think I have learned enough”.  Saffron of the keen eye and mad mind tossed a frog at Ding-We and remarked, “Slug on the brain, lucky puss fucker is full of salt”. Still feeling flush the party pressed on into another chamber full of burial alcoves. The hobo-rummage stirred up a corrosive cloud of mold gas. A significant portion of the band dropped to the floor choking to death as the cloud burnt eyes, throats and lungs. After resolving and recovering from this near death challenge the horde came to the conclusion that it might be a fine time to make tracks back to Helix.

They made their way out stealthily and then slipped into the ever present fog of the moor making it back to Helix just as dusk approached.

EXTRA INFORMATION (This was learned by Ding-We from reading tablets)

A) The History of Nergal

Nergal, God of the Underworld, received a vision. He knew his sons, Orcus and Set, desired his throne and wanted to depose him as Lord of the Underworld. One of the Anganach (old gods), Nergal once ruled the Underworld and the spheres of Death and the Undead. He was deposed and presumably destroyed by his sons Orcus and Set. Prior to his presumed death, Nergal ensured his followers interred his most powerful artifact deep within Barrowmaze.

B) The History of Set & Orcus

Set and his brother Orcus deposed their father Nergal for control of the underworld. After completing the task they turned on each other to establish complete control over their father’s spheres of power. A war for control of the underworld began. A stalemate ensued with each son controlling a portion of Nergal’s power. But there was a third missing piece the would tip the scales in favour of one of the brothers to become the Lord if the Underworld. They sent their minions across the lands to ransack their father’s earthly palaces in search of the repository of Nergal’s power.
