Barrowmaze: Now Hiring a New Sheriff (Session 43)

SESSION 43: Gonna Need a New Sheriff, Yes I Will. (7MAR17)

The day began early in an effort to clean up some of the previous evenings mayhem. A completely sane Saffron pleaded for release from the burlap sack. Marr snuck back in the raw. Arnd is convinced that weird chicks can make for a fun night. Bimbles’ communed to his god to have the power to remove the heinous curse upon Saffron. When she did finally get out of the sack she was mad as a hatter and chewing on Bimbles’ pointy magic finger. At this time Carla and a couple of flunkies went to the tavern in hopes of trading some premium goods for potions with other near-do-wells as themselves. They succeeded at that task. During this time Calvin thought it was a brilliant chance to dive into a runic tablet. After some clear warnings, that he ignored a tablet was read. That was the last bold thing that Calvin will ever commit.

This kinda put a damper on preparations for the next delve. They talked about doing some sorta funerary stuff but instead just threw his ashes in a box that already had ashes of unknown origin in it. The following day came and the group set out for Barrowmaze. Saffron and Bunny stayed behind, ostensibly to assist Brule and keep an eye on Ding-We of the soon to be peg leg.

The adventuring group encountered a band of trolls whom were more interested in trudging at the time than killing. Our hobos also gave them directions to their close by kill pile of yummy rotting meat. This was good enough. Both crews went their separate ways.

Returning to Barrowmaze, all was quiet. So the party jumped down the main entrance and began falling back to their last explored area. They ran into a bunch of tomb-robbers making an expeditious retreat and got a little bit of info. A short while later they found the robbers dead buddies as well as a cryptic map, possibly of an unexplored area nearby. The hobos were not in a huge rush to figure it out.

Further exploration in the area netted some jewelry, gems, coins and a key! The hindrances seemed mild and were quickly resolved. Such as Carla casting “snake charm”, that doesn’t happen every day I tell ya. Things continued along like this until the party made their way into a shrine to Nergal. Our chum and pal Gormen would rather be alive than allow our troupe to deface another shrine. His anger somewhat got the better of him as not only did he launch his forces but he exposed himself as well, rather than his preferred guerilla tactics.

The battle was tremendous. Spell fire, the eating of flesh and the mangling of bodies and motile corpses. Ramrod saved himself within seconds of becoming a green slime. But perhaps most importantly at the apex of the battle when it appeared that Death’s cold hand was closing in on the party, Bimbles turned the tide back. Just as a lightning bolt shot from a Necrolyte’s fingers he called forth his stored power from a runic tablet and countered the spell. This saved Sloth’s life and probably the whole party. The hobos then jumped to the advantage punching through the zombie line they brought down Gormen with the two other spellcasters shortly thereafter. The dead were not going to surrender but they were also no longer going to win. The grand melee finally concluded our rag-tag band was bloody and exhausted but alive and victorious. Another blow to Nergal. He is not going to be happy about this…
