Distracted Once Again (Session 96)

SESSION 96: Moving on Out, Sooner or Later (15JUL19)

Our rest was hardly disturbed by the periodic horrendous screams echoing through the stone halls of the dead. All is forgotten quickly when one remembers they are sleeping in the Tomb of Tombs.

The following morning Rammer and Bunny came up with a devious trap to hinder anyone or thing else coming into our rest station. After setting up the trap the hobos were back into the corridors. The hunt you loot never ends. Even if the corridor is strangely clean. There is always a reason for deviations from the norm - It was another trap! The walls and floor had been replaced with flagstone golems that peeled themselves off the surfaces and began pummelling hobos. We got through the punch up without notable injury. They then briefly talked about going back Helix. Instead the call for loot persisted and so they got into further shenanigans.

Notably there was a surplus of gargoyles and our first rot pudding. The latter required a hasty escape and almost motivated our egress. It was the subsequent green slime that really let the gang know their luck was waning. With that the hobos now getting to the point of having to decided risking another rest cycle in the tomb or finally busting out of Barrowmaze to get a real rest. There was a horde of lizardmen in the swamp but they bought them off and finished the dank trek through the swamp returning to Helix looking forward to beds and hopefully fewer night terrors.

You can Lead a Hobo to the Exit but... (Session 95)

SESSION 95: Run for it, or so we thought... (8JUL19)

Swords out! Barrow guardians on the attack. It was fairly cut and dry on its own but behind the scene Bunny was enthralled by a corpse candle. The creature dragged Bunny back to its lair and began to consume her essence. Bunny was saved, eventually, a timely gaseous form potion in conjunction with identifying the thing as an angry haunting spirit. Moving along we felt that we had likely disposed of the occupants of the area do we went on a looting frenzy in on off Nergal’s crypts. We got some neat stuff, including a magical but inanimate mummy, and then began the long journey back to Helix, or so I thought.

Heading south, Ding-We wondered what was down a particular passage way to the east. We found four small doors, that revealed four narrow finger like passages that ended in small crypts. This discovery included a series of devious ambushes that could have turned out very poorly but we had just enough luck. How long will it last? We did note that during the resolution process that Boris may have a few loose screws- he would not be the first or last. Now it was definitely time to head back to Helix…Oh! Wait just a second we just found an architectural inconsistency.

Secret door. Secret corridor. Secret chamber. Secret passage.

Nobody has been here in like forever. We decide that this must be a great place to rest before we do something or the other. Maybe we will head back to town tomorrow. Maybe not.

Time to Pay the Hobos (Session 94)

 SESSION 94: Treasure Madness (24JUN19)

Knee deep in the gore. We have broken and shattered the Necromancer’s of Set. We cleaned and healed up prior to our next step, back to the treasure horde. Alas, the buggers had absconded away with the chests only leaving behind the magnificent gold sarcophagus. There was arguing in respect to getting the gold deathbed out and the next move, there had already been arguing, there would be more arguing. Time moved like a salted slug.

We then backtracked to the Secret Shrine of Set ™. Opening the massive doors revealed a place of some seriously deep-fried evil. We entered and closed the doors behind us. The eyes of Set began to glow with demonic hatred and he spoke. “Blasphemers…I curse you as the most hated of Set for all time…Eternity of torture…Death comes for you…” The statue of Set then raised his staff, “Feel my wraith”. The two gigantic bronze jackals animated and leapt. Golems destroy those who defy the true lord of the underworld! Screw my brother he is a hack, father always hated me more! Golems are unrelenting things with often troublesome capabilities but two versus legion is tough odds.

After cleaning up we went on a loot extravaganza. More interestingly, we found some clues (see tale of the tape) that could move this operation along. After which we barred the doors to the shrine and then Bimbles called down the ultimate power of his deity to bring poor Hobo Steve back from the underworld. The ritual was involved and required a mountain of sacrifice to bring the divine might of the God of Spinning Stars to receive Bimble's petition. It worked, many treasured items that kept the hobos in business were consumed and the God of Spinning Stars was satisfied. Bimbles became a conduit for a vast divine power.

Steve returned to us fragile like a newborn, shedding his crispy exterior for fresh pink flesh that prevented his juices from oozing all over the place. Huzah!

Drunk on our success we pressed on after a secure rest period. Moving further east we looted, to much success, long forgotten tombs. It did not come without a price, Sloth’s fragile mind has succumbed to the horror of mummies. Yours, mine, anybody’s mummy! Our greed knows no bounds, we kept pressing on. We entered a large chamber after relentlessly looting all of the adjacent chambers. The guardians were not happy with our presence…
