ZUUL! (Session 117)

 SESSION 117: The Chaos Sepulchre of the Elements (The Final Chapter -Part 6)  7MAR20

            So we had the four skull keys in hand and had finished licking our wounds. Time to open the them giant doors to the final sepulchre of elemental chaos. Ramrod plugged skulls the into place. The 15’ doors cracked open with a gasp revealing a long bricked corridor that disappeared into darkness.

Moving down the corridor all was fine until drumming could be heard. The resonance made the source very difficult to discern it just seemed to be everywhere. When we were about 70’ down the corridor was when the source became apparent as mummies (of Zuul) started smashing their way out of the walls, lots of them. We picked up our pace and came to a stairwell that descended into a great burial chamber, the Grand Sepulchre of the Elements. Interred here was Zvin Lorktho highpriest of Zuul, now a dread mummy lord, along with his attendants. Zvin was not happy to see us and got straight down to the business of killing the infidels.  

                        ZUUL!

Things went bonkers. Zvin started blasting us with his dark magics and dozens of mummies had us trapped pushing the gang closer towards the mummy boss. Hobos in a barrel. It was grim. as our front end were hammered by Zvin and our back end was in disarray as they were battered by the surprise mummies. Ding-We, in an occasional stroke of smart remembered his potion of mummy control and was able to get the backline fortified. Using the two closet shamblers as a plug. Mummies to stop mummies worked pretty good. Back to the front. We were dangerously close to losing many Hobos. We needed something to turn the tide. We needed something divine. Both Bimbles and Carla petitioned their gods for a moment of favour. Sacrifices were made and they were given one last chance to gain control of the melee. It worked! The tide was turned and we finally sent Zvin back to ZUUL! for all eternity. After that we were able to focus on the cleanup of the remaining mummies. All done. The forces of elemental chaos were beaten.

            We quickly grabbed our breath and then went onto the looting portion of our day. The payoff was significant. We poured the loot (except for an exquisite black opal that Ding-We scooped) into our still not full magical sack and then sat down to figure out the ‘interesting’ items and do a little resting and recovery and then push on.

Hobo Meets Earth for the Final Key (Session 116)

 SESSION 116: The Chaos Sepulcher of the Elements (Part 5) 17FEB20

            Two days passed within the now not so hot chamber of elemental fire without a happy DM (random free). The hobos suited up and made their way to Earth, the final elemental gauntlet to run. But first… we gotta find the key and fight more wraiths – great.

This bonanza of fun was followed up by some blood thirsty zoombies, some green slime and some great swag. In particular four jaw-droppingly exquisite platinum rhytons. We got the key somewhere along the way and made our way to battle the final elemental challenge..                                                         

            Earth was a little more sneaky than it’s compatriots. Mr. Ropers and piercers were hiding throughout the earthen chamber prior to the primary emissaries of the elemental plane came a smashing. Blood, sweat and (nearly) tears. It was done the fourth and final skull key was in our grasp. Now, on to the final elemental battle!

Red Hot Murder (Session 115)

 SESSION 115: The Chaos Sepulcher of the Elements (Part 4) 6FEB20

            The search for Fire ended within the handkerchief of the spectre formally known as Fecal Nul. The hanky was actually a keenly folded portable hole with the key to fire tucked away in it. We also ran afoul of a couple of golems prior to the noted windfall, they were tougher than this abbreviated post-game notation.  Moving on to the chamber of elemental fire.

             It was really, really hot in there. Metal immediately became uncomfortable to be in contact with. A great rift in the earth belched forth flaming crabs and then fiery weirds before we began the main event against the actual piles of flame. By this time our flesh had started to sizzle. Bimbles was holding the wet t-shirt contest on our horde with his water blaster. This may have prevented our tanks from literally melting. With numerous members on the brink we finally sent the final elemental back to its home plane. The temperature immediately began to normalize as the elemental influence waned. We had the skull key and 80% of our group were incapacitated with extreme burns. After dropping weapons and doffing armor our hobos collapsed to heal and more importantly liberally apply cooling unguents.

Murder vs. Water! (Session 114)

 SESSION 114: The Chaos Sepulcher of the Elements (Part 3) 

 Barrowmaze continues to show the wealth of secrets in its twisting labyrinthine corridors. 

    With the key to the crypt of elemental water in hand, maybe I mentioned this maybe I didn’t. In hindsight I’m almost certain I glossed over it. However, we did have the key in hand and were ready to face the forces of WATER!!!! Nagas, spouts and Jabba the wall of water. The battle was fierce, exceptionally extra moist and sketchy at times but it was Hobos for the victory. Super skull shaped key number two was now ours.  Two more until we can breach the super lair sepulchre of the elements.

            We back tracked to the entry to the larger crypt of elements. Our unseen friends were not to be seen but there was blood everywhere. Lots of blood. Really lots of blood. Dripping and congealing. Our Hobos cared not and proceeded to smash down the barrier to Earth and Fire. The hate club will make their appearance at some point until then the looting must continue.

            Fire is next up. On to the crypts in search of the Fire key. First we had a worm worm-bag couple, the very elusive Son and Daughter of Gaxx,  and then it was a trio of wraiths. Carla felt the icy life consuming touch in the process to get the key of Fire but we ain’t rookies and only death stops us. Also, they had some nice loot. They did totally waste their dust of disappearance but they did acquire some interesting items. However, they did not actually locate the key of Fire. They realized something must have been missed. It was time for an exhaustive search of the area.  

I would be remiss to mention that there may have been mummies as well that froze some limbs and caused Sloth more mental anguish (don’t show him this part).
