Giant Dinner Party Massacre (Session 207)

SESSION 207: Enough Sneaking More Killing

Tired of being sneaky we turn things up to 11!

Day 127 Continues (12.20/ 0305): The commotion did stir up some attention. Across the court yard a door opened and a naked giant holding a whip appeared. The noise had stirred the wolf handler from his boudoir. It was Handsome Tom Arnold the Hill Giant. As far as hill giants go he was quite the looker. He set his eyes upon his chopped up pack and then our murderous mob. He turned to the bevy of giantesses still within the chamber and said something epic and heroic and took his club in his free hand. In his mind he was going to squash us but good he was much better with the ladies than the maths and figured three was a small number and easy to defeat. Our eleven hobos could do math, well at least the ones calling the shots could and knew they had the advantage. They just had to prevent the alarm from being called. Unbeknownst to them ole Handsome Tom could never say no to a chance to wow tha ladies with his assorted prowess’s. Tom charged into the also charging line of tanks picking Camillus to be his target. She saw him coming and set her massive sword as a bar. It probably should not have worked but H.T.A. was naked and at full mast. Ramming his ding dong into the wide and cold metal of Camillus’s two-handed sword created an immediate stop of forward motion and buggered up his club swing. Tom wanted to shout out but looking over his shoulder he saw his harem watching with awe, he winked and pretended nothing had happened to Tiny Tom – “Ha Ha!”. His bravado was about to lead him to the grave. Our tanks circled him and carved him to pieces. The giantesses fell back into the chamber, made swooned momentarily before falling to the floor after the emotional crush of seeing their hero chopped up and a well-timed psychological attack from our little purple mystic.

They all piled into the boudoir. Quickly tying up the currently comatose oversized party girls they then took a quick look around the chamber and one adjacent. Nothing immediately noted as valuable in the chamber and the second appeared to be slave quarters that was full of pallets and junk along with a stinky funk. There were two orks present that were in a convalescent state and were ignored.

There was also a set of double doors. These were presumed to lead to a large corridor that would lead back to the great hall. It was at this time that some war monger, probably Ding-We, had grown tired of sneaking about and suggested that they just ambush the revelers at Giantapolooza. Somewhat surprisingly this ‘guns blazing’ approach was wholly embraced and so they decided to get closer to limit any possible entanglements at the wrong time.

Moving down the corridor the came to a zag there were two doors and the way continued obviously to the hall as the racket grew louder with every step. They tried the door to the west just in case the one to the east connected to the great hall. The east door lead the kitchen workroom that then flowed, in an open concept sorta way, into the kitchen proper. Lots of activity could be heard and smelt to substantiate Bunny’s reconnaissance. There was also another door right beside the entry one it lead to a storage room containing an assortment of provisions and a stairwell going down. They were about to move on when a dozen orks entered the chamber each carrying messy serving shields. They hurriedly moved through the workroom and into the kitchen. The storage room seemed as good of a place as any to prepare for the assault on the party. Potions, scrolls, spells and such were distributed, drank and decrypted.

“Hobo-bots Roll Out!” back into the main corridor they approached the great hall ready to rumble but then there was a gaff. The kitchen was directly across from the hall and there was no door and we knew that it was fully operational. A cone of cold was blasted into the kitchen freezing everyone and everything – orks, wee-ogres and giants now popsicles. They turned to the double doors leading to the great hall. The tanks lined up and spellcasters and slingers readied behind. They opened the doors.

The giants were not expecting unwelcome company and did not immediately take notice of the intruders. It was a very large hall, perhaps great even, a 120’ across by 80’ deep. In the middle was a roaring fire pit being tended by a group of ogres cooking a whole ox, two sheep and four pigs. Around the pit were arranged four very long tables packed with giants- singing, talking, laughing, shouting, arguing, wrestling and joking. The head table which was higher than the others to accommodate some even larger guests a trio of stone giants and cloud giant. Just as the cloud giant’s brow wrinkled when he looked upon the hobo mob the attack was launched. A large portion of the chamber fell into darkness as bolts of electricity and a wave psionic devastation swept through the chamber. The ambush was paying out very well and the hobos still had the jump on the giants. Once more raining down powerful and destructive magicks. From somewhere in the chamber a huge cave bear had been laying low. It followed its nose and can slamming into the front-line before any of the giants could orientate. The bear held our death dealers at the precipice of the chamber long enough for the giants to counterstrike. Unfortunately, they were only in their dress rags and without weapons. If they had been smarter as a whole they would have grabbed some serving knives at least. Wave after wave came the hobos they were holding the line but then attrition kicked in. Camillus was hammered into the ground with a violently broken arm and leg. Then Steve had his arm shattered by a giant foot, bones don’t stand up well to giant kicks. The two fighters sucked back potions as Sloth and Boris struggled to hold the giants back. Boris once more was the recipient of ‘wack-a-dwarf’, a fist hammered down upon his head once more crushing his body down to a more compact and gnome-like height. He was down another 5”, it seems unlikely he will survive another similar blow. Steve and Camillus were back up in the nick of time as another wave of hill giants appeared (it would be the last) and something else was going down. The cloud and stone giants attempted an attack from behind after arming themselves via the kitchen. They saw a line of sorcerers (stupid mirror images) and proceeded to smite illusions. This gave Nara a chance to stupefy one of the Stoners and Saff to unleash another frost wand blast. The giants were already injured and the turn of events was enough for the cloud giant to let out a curse before once more evacuating as his moral faltered. The two remaining stoners did not see the writing on the wall and provided excellent cover for the escape before being demolished. The battle in the great hall of the hill giant chieftain had come to an end. The pile of corpses were a wall that would require scaling to enter the chamber. The place was in shambles. Broken furniture, food, drink, blood, corpses and spot fires.

As the smoke settles and a breath is taken we wonder if a big enough ruckus was made this time.

A Steading of Giant Sized Murder (Session 206)

SESSION 206: The Steading of the Hill Giant Chief

We go back in time to see what the giant-slayers are up.

Day 127 Cloudy, grey, cold (14.22à12.20/ 0305): The group made their way back to the vantage point. Arriving by early afternoon they decided to rest and observe until the dead of night. At two bells they moved towards the gigantic log structure. No movement had been observed since the earlier evening. As they made their way around the formidable structure a guard tower was observed but no watch was seen.

Bunny took a tug from a potion of invisibility and made her way to the large double front doors. She could hear the sounds of revelry from deep within. Slightly pushing open one of the doors she was greeted by loud snoring. Behind the other door, good thing she tried the side she did, two giant guards slumbered beside an empty keg. She entered into the entry foyer. The south wall was lined with pegs holding garments, sacks and the like. To the north another set of double doors flanked by two single doors. There was most certainly a party going on beyond the double doors. A corridor to the west led to a stairwell gong up to the watch tower. Bunny crept up these steps and was once more greeted by snoring. Another drunken giant shirking his duty. Bunny then returned to the group whom were hiding in the shadows just beyond the entry. The group made their way in and began mercilessly assassinating sleeping giants.

Afterwards, they choose the singular door to the right. A corridor leading to a junction along the way was a door. Looking in it was a bedchamber, they pressed on. Heading east down the junction was a barrack with two more giants that were murdered in their sleep. Heading north from there were two more doors.

The first was the romper room a dozen ogre sized giant youths were beating the crap out of each other and then our hobos. This led to the inevitable outcome, hobo slaughter. Monsters is monsters. Fortunately the ‘kids’ make a habit of sounding like the end of the world so the melee attracted no consideration. On their way to the next chamber a jovial giant entered the corridor from a door at the northern extent. The giant was not expecting any trouble and was not ready for murder. Back to the next door. It was the maids’ chamber and there was four present whom heard the previous skirmish. They were led by an exceptionally nasty old matron. When the door was opened they hurled giant sized frying pans because they carry those sorta things around. Two of them were spared, one of which hadn’t had the brains fried. This one begged for mercy in exchange for information. The deal was accepted and the hobos learned a bit about some chambers ahead.

Moving along another junction to the west more double doors that clearly led to party central. They went east into a furnished hall with doors at both ends. They checked the closest, it led to a bedchamber. They decided to back track and go further north along a double wide corridor. It went for 60’ ending in a pair of double doors. One immediately ahead the other 50’ to the west. They took door(s) number one. It was a large open compound full of nasty dire wolves. The wolves were alert and attacked immediately. Fighting ensued. It was noisy fighting rather noisy fighting. It didn’t last long but what a racket. The hobos braced for an incoming shitstorm.

When Salad Attacks (Session 205)

 SESSION 205: Hobo Hordes Activate!

Saffron and Bunny make their way Liwil to inform the mages of shit and junk as well as check on the troop recruitment program. Potions are completed and a convergence in Greenland. The band breaks into two groups to address the shadows over the adjacent lands. Team Orc lead by Rammer and Sasha quickly face setbacks and challenges.

Day 118 – 126 mixed cold (14.22/14.23): Pieces are moved about in preparation for the Hobo-meet at the Greenland base on day 126. Prior to this Saff reunites with peg-leg as Bunny hires a squad of horsemen and then proceeds to relax a few days until the wizards complete the potion brewing. The brewing was more successful this time but once more Wendul shook when he should have stirred at a critical juncture – HOYVIN-GLAVIN!

Ding-We had to make a decision, only three of the four lawn ornaments could be recovered. After much hoo-ha it was decided that BoB would remain stone for the time being. As Camillus, Charles and even Felix were needed. Then the hobos closed in on Greenland for the Hobo-moot. Assignments were given and after the rest were broken into two groups. One to address the giants and the other for Operation Orc Begone. This all took a bit longer than needed as Biff was infuriated that his gal-pal BoB remained stone while Felix the idjit was free to “help yokels do things right”. In the end he settled down a bit but once Horcs get fired up they make messes.

Day 127 Cloudy, grey, cold (14.22à13.21 – 0806/0705/0704/0703): The new ‘A-Team’ set out to complete the clearing of hex 13.21 which includes the likely Orc lair. Tracks of both humanoids and something else are discovered during the day. The humanoid tracks pointed in the direction of the distant sandstone cliffs to the NW and the other tracks of something larger but still humanoid went to the SW. The evening was uneventful.

Day 128 Cloudy moderate rain (13.21 -0703/0603/0604/0605 à14.22): Today the grey turns rain and by midafternoon the group entered into the hex that the large prints discovered the previous day were pointed towards. This final sub-hex was notably wetter than the surrounding area. When in the southern portion they came over a hill and into a pocket bog. As they entered into the mucky and vegetation covered boggy zone three piles of veg and muck rose up and took vaguely humanoid forms 9’ tall.

Shambling mounds and the group walked right into their lair. Quiet and mindless the killer salads slammed hobos with massive fists. Charles was grabbed and pulled into the central mass of one. He was engulfed and likely suffocating. The creatures hardly noticed physical attacks and Wendul’s spells were a series of flubs. Fire had no effect as the creatures were soaked and mucous covered and then electricity actually made them grow larger. It wasn’t until he cast mirror image and was able to suck up a bunch of blows did he shine and it was just in time as Ramrod had become engulfed, Charles was clinging to life and the non-selective behaviour had put most of the group well within sight of dire straits. Wendul had turned the tide. After finishing up the final mound everyone was covered in gunk and well beaten. This did not prevent them from once more digging through the muck in search of soldier’s pay. Along with the bones of many assorted humanoids there was coin, a pair of small gems and a notable amount of fine jewelry. The coin and gems were underwhelming, to be used to invigorate the peasant folk, but the jewelry made up for it. It was decided that they would force march back to the Greenland mine site to recover.

Day 129 & 130: (14.22): Rest and recovery at the mine site.

Day 131 Moderate rain (14.22à13.21 – 0505/0606/0506/0407): Entering into one the blighted lands around the sandstone cliffs was a sub-hex pocked with 1’ wide holes that appeared to be part of a larger tunnel system. The hobo presence stirred some of the occupants. A wing of stirges crawled out and took wing hungry for blood. Wendul and Sasha were impaled by the creatures sharp proboscises that immediately began draining them of juice.

The little buggers were more of a headache than anticipated and there were many holes that could easily house swarms of the bloodsuckers. The hobos would retreat for now.

Day 132 Moderate cold rain (13.21 – 0407/0307/0306/0406/0305): Autumn is clearly upon our gang. Intermittent rain has turned into days and the chill begins to sink in. Today they continue to close the noose around the presumptive lair of the beastmen within a sandstone cliff. Sasha continues to find evidence of humanoid foot traffic but she failed to the basilisk. The day was waning and the rains limited the view further. The great lizard had dug into the hillside to bed down for the evening. It was observed from 70 yards and was watching us back. It was not immediately hostile perhaps more interested in a good nap. However our gang saw it as a potential source of a much coveted alchemical resource. They closed in. The basilisk became agitated and charged to close the distance. It was outside of effective petrification range as missiles rained down upon its glistening hide. Accuracy was a little questionable and did not stop it. Charging once more it slammed into Charles (who was charged..), with eyes lowered and shield up he held the massive beast at bay long enough for the others to bring it down. The gizzard was intact, it had a belly full of gems and no one was petrified. This ate up the rest of the day and camp was set as darkness approached. Drums could be heard coming from some distance to the north overnight.

So Long Suckers (Session 204)

 SESSION 204: Midnight Blade

Troubles in the wilderness followed by a challenge in camp.

Day 102 CONTINUED - Clear (12.19-0405/0304/0205/0206): Pressing on from the phase spider lair we discovered the harpy roost. The stink really gave it away in advance, acrid feces and rotting meat. The joint was a filthy mess but nary an occupant to be found. It looked like the original encounter wiped out the lot of them – great. Time to loot. Time to be grossly let down yet again. Three gems of middling size that was it. They continued along a pathway that had Stagmen tracks and came out of the twisted forest to an uncharted area. Not far away was a clear ambush spot. It looked the stagmen had a well-established and insidious setup. Luckily our previous labours resulted in an absence of murderers. The gang moved west and then south before camping as they made sure to clear the extents of the hex as they made their way around the dread forest stand.

Day 103 Clear (12.19-0206/0306/0305/0306): While traveling along the western edge of the dread forest, hill giants (3) are once more encountered. It seemed that our gang were feeling a little more murderous today and leapt to the immediate offensive. The giants won initiative and saw our hobos intent so they hurled their sacks. Rhags was creamed by one of them resulting in compression of his spine. This was about it for the trio. Nara crippled one with a mental attack and the other two broke morale after our nearly naked purple girl then blew up their clubs.  They collected their loot an exceptional horde of golden coin. They left the afflicted giant to recover the payout had caused the urge to kill to recede. The rest of the exploration day was uneventful.

Day 104 Clear & Cold (12.19-0306/0406/0505/0606): Things were moving along just until they strode up to the edge of a mud wallow. Inside was a hideous creature likely an abomination even that had a serious stink to it. A body like a giant hippopotamus with pustulant skin a long tail with a club-like end and most bizarre of all an abnormally long neck that ended in an oversized tusk mawed head. The neck was so long that it could barely lift the humungous head. This was good because catoblepas are deadly creatures. Steve activated his ring of jumping and flew into the creature. Somehow someway instantaneous death was avoided. Perhaps because our mob struck first and hard – abominations are not to be trifled with. After, they were convinced that loot must be present so they began rooting through the muck like hogs. They did end up finding two very fine gem-encrusted necklaces. They finished exploring the sub-hex and then called it an early day.

Day 105 Cloudy rain overnight (12.19-0606/0506/0407/0307/0408): A pleasant evening had been spoiled by a notable amount of rain but it did help clean up the members that had been swimming in the mud for cash and prizes. The precipitation eased shortly after camp was broken and simply made for a cloudy day. The forest this day was devoid of wandering creatures to smite. By days end the hex clearing was completed and the lands of Gormandia had grown.

Day 106 Cloudy (12.19-0408/0507à12.20-0704): The hex was now certified ‘free of lairs’. With that the gang agreed the safest way back to the ferry was by water. They marched to the closest spot of the Blood River and pulled out their folding boat. The trip downstream to the ferry was pleasantly uneventful.

Day 107 Clear (12.20-0704): A day of rest at the ferry outpost.

Day 108 Clear ( à14.22-0303): Travel through cleared and patrolled hexes to the slate mine and outback church of TMB.

Day 109 Unusual – strange green mist (14.22-0303): This day was a train wreck. The mist was carried a malevolent force. Life-draining mist men coalesced around Carla and her congregation. As the entities closed in on the most despised source of holy radiance  the people were slaughtered flung like rag dolls or drained of all vitality. These entities were potent and Carla was separated from both the rest of the party and the majority of her gear. The rest of the gang were not too far away and upon hearing the commotion made the dash. Willy was first in as Agolloch ‘bamfed’ him right into the fray. This may have saved Carla but it came at the cost of Willy’s life as he was pummeled by a pair of the evil green mist guys turning him into a dead dry husk. The fight was a pounding but without further casualty.

Day 110 Unusual – Early Winter Cold Snap (14.22-0303): The evil mist had past leaving a dramatic cold snap in its wake. Once more Carla would be called to channel a direct connection with TMB in an attempt to restore Willy. It worked and none too soon, Agolloch would not shut up. However, Willy clearly showed the signs of one touched by death clearly less vital. Carla was drained and fell into a near coma-like slumber – channeling divine force is a serious thing. It looked like we had gotten through the mayhem but alas no. The fates had one more challenge. Sometime during the day Saffron’s enchantment upon Arbuckle failed and he immediately began stewing on his next move. He had been hired to kill a green priestess and a one-legged wizard. There was no mistaking Carla as one of the prime targets. He would attempt to kill her in the dead of night. Fortunately for Carla the bitter cold and a fighter’s attempt at assassination made for an unsuccessful endeavour. He quickly grabbed the bag of holding and made an escape out of the back of the pavilion just before the watch and other sleepers reacted to Carla’s screams. “Oh oh, where is new dumb dumb..”, Saff somehow rationally identifying the key detail beyond the blood spraying all over. Healing was given to Carla and an action plan was enacted to find the scoundrel. Saffron would use her ability to locate an object, the bag of holding aka Carla’s hootchie sack. Into the freezing night went the little glowbug relaying information back to Bunny. Even when Saff’s brain does work right she still tends to be a little looney. In between passing directions back to the rest of the party she shouted out the play-by-play like it was the Stanley Cup final – she was all gusto. As they kept closing in on him and he began to actually listen to Saff’s commentary Arbuckle realized that his prize was a guaranteed death sentence. He tossed the sack in one direction and bolted hard in another. He escaped completely failing his mission and attempt at revenge.

Day 111 – 117 Mixed & cold (14.22-0303):  After a couple of crummy days and ever increasing Winter-like conditions the band focused on recovery of the infirm, dutchy maintenance, resource allocation and planning the next move – giants or orks?

Has that muck monster been reproducing?

What about the giants, are we against them?

Have we learned anything from the recent string of deaths?

Where is that damnable Arbuckle?

Tale of the Tape

·      Arbuckle finally broke free from his charmed state and in a marginally calculated action attempted to complete half of his mission and kill Carla. It did not work now he is on the run.

·      The list of recovering hobos expands to include Willy along with Sloth, Sasha and Dolec

·      Mason is overseeing the construction (along with Brett & Germaine) at Greenland

·      Bimbles, is overseeing construction at the Gormandia ferry. At least that is he tells the foreman to tell any inquires.

·      Camillus, Bob, Charles and Felix continue to be lawn ornaments for the Basilisk Knights.

·      Ding-We and the other nerds are deep in the second round of furiously brewing enough potions to resolve the above problem.
