Lightning Round (Session 198)

SESSION 198: Into the Gaping Wound in Poor Mother Earth

Our group creeps away from the giant headquarters returning to the ferry and finally go after the treasure in the chasm.

Day 89 continued – Clear (12.20-0206à0304): Nope. That was Bunny and Sasha’s stance. We need the big guns if we want to run into the giant lair. They returned to the ferry and informed Bimbles that operations at the site should enter into ‘covert’ mode. It was decided that they would descend into the chasm in search of the forgotten loot.

Day 90 – Cloudy early rain (12.20- 0304/0405/0406/0505/0504/0604/0704): Setting out for the chasm the group was able to make good time as they were becoming more and more familiar with the local lands and arrived at the destination midafternoon. After some general reconnaissance around the wound in the earth they set up camp and prepared for the incursion.

Day 91 – Clear (12.20-0704à13.20-0503): Into the chasm. It was deep, like super deep (450’). The problem solving rope from Razmuth really did problem solution. At the bottom there were large yellow ants going about their business. Our gang displayed more caution than normal and discovered the ants simply checked them out and then went back to anting. Moving along the sleuths discovered where the ‘X’ was on the map. As “luck” would have it something had burrowed into or from a network of tunnels beyond. It ended up being a lair, of course, and the occupant was a 40’ long twelve legged blue reptile. It was a Behir and it did not like visitors. The creature used its knowledge of the labyrinth of tunnels to run and gun the explorers. It almost killed Willy, forcing Agolloch to teleport his human back to the ferry. The sword had grown fond of it’s ability to take control of Willy at its leisure and the Behir was not actually ‘chaotic’ so killing it was not a priority. Shortly after blasting the rest of the group with a lightning bolt Saff was able to ping the monster with a confusion arrow resulting in the behir’s brain losing any sort of structured thought. This was the death of the mighty lizard. Inside its guts were some gems and a sword but the hobos suspected that this was not the treasure they came for.

There must be more somewhere deeper into the maze of tunnels.

Pyramid Scheme by the Sword (Session 197)

 SESSION 197: Looting the Looters

The first official trip on the Gormlandia ferry led to some good fortune as we learned that robbing robbers is actually rather lucrative. The group also made a big discovery and learned that they had earned a new enemy based out of Iron Guard Motte.

Day 87 Continued – Violent Rain (12.20-0704/0604/0603): With limited fanfare Bunny and Sasha led a group of hobos into the wilderness across the Blood River. “Might as well have swum across I’m so bloody wet”, Bunny grumbled after becoming a little too complacent over the last few weeks in Liwil. A couple of hours later our band was remined that the other side of the river was a dangerous place. A trio of hill giants heading  south fresh back from a raid or some such thing (the copious amount of loot being the indicator) caught the group flat footed. Resulting in Steve catching a boulder in the leg shattering bone and crippling him. They took a beating before slaying the giants and then being grossly rewarded. Steve’s leg even after Mason’s attendance was not right. They pushed on but the combination weather and a hobbled Steve slowed progress.

Day 88 – Violent Rain (12.20-0603/0503/0403/0303): The rains continued unrelenting. Around midday they were ambushed by a large band of brigands. They were really no match but they had the numbers. Saffron successfully charmed the leader, Arbuckle, and he was happy to share not only the gross amount of coin and gems in the brigands possession but he shared his motivations.

They had been hired by the bandit queen – Renatta the Black the notorious outlaw leader of the Helix region whom we never quite got our mitts on and who was smart enough to keep her distance. Renatta in turn had actually been hired by an entity from Iron Guard Motte to find and kill a one-legged wizard and his green friend. The reason that Arbuckle and his group had actually attacked our explorers was actually boredom and the general anger of not being able to find their quarry. Even when flush with coin brigands is bandits. Our band took this under consideration and plugged head rolling Arbuckle into the pack as he was very pleasant when charmed. “Look at her she is soooo pretty with those little wings” “That’s right poop brains eat this frog for your new queen!”. Pressing on Sasha and Bunny were ambushed by a giant pit viper that showed uncanny speed and could have killed Bunny were it not for her commitment to vitamins.

Day 89 – Clear (12.20-0303/0404/0304/0205/0305/0206): Moving around the westside of the mixed forest signs of occupation became apparent – smoke, timber harvesting and the stench of domestic birds. To make matters worse there were footprints. Very large humanoid footprints. Sasha even suggested they were ‘giant sized’. An hour or so later all these questions were answered. Moving around the SW edge of the hex the first thing spotted was a stone garrison resting atop a granitic tor. Moving in further items were spotted. The garrison was being used by ogres perhaps as a meat house for the giant geese that they appeared to be farming just beyond. Oh, and speaking of giant. A few hundred feet away at the edge of the forest was a giant log structure suitable for giant beings. This was the source of the smoke. Our hobos observed things for a little while until Bunny pointed out the obvious – “we are going to need a bigger boat”.

Riddles Continue to Abound (Session 196)

SESSION 196: This way, that way and the other way

The explorers covered lots of territory after fishing for Moby worm then encountered a mercurial wizard, once more running afoul of basilisks and then returning to Liwil to inform of Bimbles’s success with the ferry construction and to commence the next phase of MurderHobo dominion.

Day 74 – Weird Strong Winds (13.20-0606/): The winds were something fierce to open a strange day. First, our explorers need to get the last white worm. A combination of meat on a rope and stomping about lured the beast to its doom. Secondly, once returning to exploration there was some sort of ritualistic site. “Strange magicks” remarked Steve to Sloth (his intellectual equal who responded in kind “Strange magicks” Steve knew they were both on the same wavelength and that was good – “yup”. An inscribed stone circle that contained a small fire pit. Ash and the bones of tiny animals with a single gold coin buried below. Later, as the winds continued to howl a pair of basilisks were spotted moving along the tree line that would on normal days be obscured by tall grasses. Nara used her metal powers to blast one of them with her mental power. This was enough to deter the reptiles and they hastily retreated into the forest. The group preferred this option they did not want another companion turned into a lawn ornament. However, things tend to move in circles. The winds were not letting up so the explorers decided to return to camp. As their luck would have it, the basilisks were already sniffing around the edge of camp as they returned. We were in close combat immediately. Sasha locked eyes and paid the rocky price. The meatheads charged the creatures and were able to slash one the beasts to shreds as Willy, and Agolloch, teleported above the other and the sword severed the reptiles spine and everything else beyond that. After the fact it was remembered that salvage of the sweet sweet gizzards required limited physical damage to the basilisk. Hopefully Ding-We would have a pile of them in about a week. Steve opened up the portable hole and he and Sloth cautiously lowered stone Sasha into the inky void.

Day 75 – Weird Abnormally (13.20-0606): Today is deadly hot. Making metal armour unbearable to wear. The gang languishes in camp waiting for it to pass.

Day 76 – Clear (13.20-0606/0705/0605/0505): Within a relic pine stand there was a wizard with a pair of grim knights bearing the mark of the serpent (whatever that is). The wizard was wizard-like.

Impatient and used to using those around as tools towards his obtuse goals,

“Quick! Each of you climb a pine and point to the centre of the glade and repeat the following words – Ala-Kazoo!”

Steve tried to make comment but the wizard only barked at them to complete the task. His knights assisted, most grimly, in harrying our goobers along. Willy and Agolloch approached invisibly to be within the swords detection range. Agolloch came to the conclusion that the wizard had neither good nor evil intentions, he was simply up to irrational wizard shit. With no word from the hidden assassin the other mooks fell into compliance. Ala-kazoo! Ala-Kazoo! Ala-kazoo… KEEP IT GOING YOU MUPPETS! Ala-Kazoo! Ala-kazoo…

The wizard conducted a ritual, or he was just plain nutty we couldn’t tell, and then let out an exclamation and charged off to the north with his guards. The gang slid down from the trees. Steve and Sloth looked at each other and agreed that they had no idea what just happened but they didn’t really care, it was just another day in jungle –“yup”.

Day 77 – Clear (13.20-0505/0405/0504/0404à12.20/0704): The journey back to the ferry site. As our explorers tame more of the lands travel becomes quicker and safer. Returning to the Blood River ferry Bimbles’s crew has are putting on the final touches to complete the ferry and discussions have begun regarding the next step, garrison construction. Bimbles has not yet had a chance to figure how to purge the blight in the adjacent sub-hex (hahahahah- DM from the future). It was decided that Gurn and Willy would hang at the ferry while the rest of the exploration team returned to Liwil with the wagons to collect more supplies and hopefully find that Ding-We and company had created a batch of ointments to resolve the petrification problem (repeated foreshadowing).

Day 78 thru 86 – Clear, Crisp & Cloudy (12.20à13.20à14.21à14.22à14.23 and back to 12.20-0704): Departing the ferry site the next stop was Greenland to see how Carla was coming along. Construction was plugging along and our green girl was knee deep in the recruitment to the blessed following of TMB. The group stayed the night then made for Liwil. They were greeted by a belligerent, perhaps drunk, Bunny who had laid claim to the longship that was oddly parked outside the walls of a landlocked settlement. “Yarrg ye landlubbers kneel down before your new master Captain Bunny the Pink Death!”, she was full of piss, vinegar and rum. Ding-We and the brewers were still occupied for a couple more days. Steve used this time to visit Wei-Fan with his collection of rare meats. Wei-Fan initially tried to shake Steve off as he thought he was a(nother) Trojan horse in search of favours but really Steve the simple fellow he is just wanted to share his culinary delights – “It’s a meat-stravaganza!”. Wei-Fan succumbed to Stevie’s stringless offering and they had a day of gorging well and telling limericks as the rest of the gang continued with their rations. A couple of days later Ding-We finally came out and saw his shadow, “Dammit!”. Only two of the ‘stone to flesh’ potions were good. After much tough deliberation Sasha and Rhags were slathered in ointment and once more returned to the land of the fleshy and mobile. After having an evening catching up with the explorers and taking a backlog of harassment from Saffron the longship was once more shrunk down (to Captain Bunny’s chagrin) the following morning. Afterwards the mages once more returned to the laboratory (Day 85). With that the rest of the mob once more loaded with supplies moving towards Greenland and then the Gormlandia ferry. The weather began to turn miserable in the final leg a storm was brewing it would be miserable tomorrow.

Day 87 – Violent Rain (12.20-0704): With arcane types back to potion making, due to their marginal success of the first batch, the remaining parties members planned to break into two crews. One clearing the westside of the river and the other going back to the chasm> Neither group were very excited as it was a bleak and miserably wet day to start out.

Fulla Head Murder (Session 195)

SESSION 195: Lots of Heads but no Brains

Aside from a few weird things and walking into a noted danger zone exploration continued in the lands adjacent to Gormandia.

Day 66- Continued - Moderate Rain & Wind, Day 67 - Clear (12.20-0704): After meeting up with Bimbles, Rammer, Gorblat’s mercenary band and the work crew at the ferry site along the Blood River the group hung out for a few days resting and planning. Bimbles was apprised of the blighted/cursed hex immediately to the south and he began contemplating a ritual of purification when he was not tired up with the preparational works and setting up camp.

Day 68 – Clear (12.20-0704/0703/0704/0705/0606/0505/0406/0306/0307/0408)With the morning the exploration team once more set out. Bimbles promised to get to the ritual as soon as he could and Rammer gave the gang the bird, for reasons of his personal amusement. The group did a lot of moving back and forth to clean up some of the northern extent of the hex before making time through a bunch of cleared sub-hexes and getting back to work along the river. It was an easy day. They noted a large association of pines along the far bank, came upon Razmuth the Trader moving north along the river and caught a sniff of what could only be considered the acrid scent of bird feces that seemed to have also come from the other side of the river. Something to note for later investigation.

Day 69 – Clear (12.20 – 0408//0407/0506/0507/0608): Another hazardless day. A subhex of thistle that is good for resource extraction was found. During the later portion of the afternoon in a shady portion of the forest they stumbled upon a Stirgi foraging group (8). The hobos gave them a bit of a scare but then we were recognized by Milford, the fellow that had been rescued from the troglodytes. Milford and company explained that they were looking specifically for a variety of mushrooms for ‘alchemical’ reasons and did not want to dilly dally for too long as they were further from home than they normally are comfortable with. Before parting ways they did provided a cautionary note regarding what appeared to be large worm-like holes and such to the east in the neighbouring hex.

Day 70 – Solar Eclipse (12.20-0608/0607/0707 à13.20-0205): Weird things were afoot. The day began with a protracted complete solar eclipse. Was this an echo of Carcosa or some other type of grim portent or just general weirdness? The answer would not be found today. After hiding like primitives during the celestial occurrence they continued to blunder through the forest discovering a grove of valuable yellow wood before walking right into the neighbouring hex where Razmuth had warned of something dangerous. It was a ten-headed poison spitting hydra that grew replacement heads with shocking quickness. The fight was dogged but the hobos finally took care of things once the oil and flame curtailed the beasts regenerative powers. After the battle and like the money grubbers they are the hobos tore through the hydra’s lair hex determined to discover a commiserate reward for the battle. Nope. This hydra appeared to be exclusively feeding on mundane woodland creatures. The bones of deer were found in abundance and nary a one carried a coin pouch. With this deep disappointment the crew decided to camp for the evening even if it was early, Sasha was convinced that the hydra lair would be about as safe as it gets.

Day 71 – Cloudy (13.20-0205/0206/0305/0406/0306): With every day the signs of Fall were becoming more prominent. Leaves were beginning to change colour and the days started were notably becoming cool. Today was simply a pleasant Fall day of forest exploration. Signs of deer continue to be omnipresent but aside from that and other woodland creatures going about their business it was a hazard free day. Additionally, one of the sub-hexes likely a long lost farm there was a acres of tobacco plants – money in the bank!

Day 72 – Clear & Crisp )13.20-0306/0307/0407/0408/0507/0707): No monsters but there was a sub-hex dominated by a lovely plant with red flowers. Unfortunately they were a more hostile form of stinging nettle that had a contact poison. These got onto the ‘burn it with fire list’ for future eradication. The rest of the day was smooth and easy.

Day 73 – Cloudy w/Moderate Rain (13.20-0707/0607/0506/0606): The day began with rain, just enough to make the rest of the day damp and irritating. They moved east looking for ‘worm sign’ as observed by Milford and Company. It took a while but they found it. The home of a trio of giant white worms (caecilia). Relatives of purple worms, enormous but devoid of the deadly stinger of their even larger cousins. The subhex was riddled with large earthen furrows. Sasha began tracking the subterranean hunters but they were keenly aware of the hobo presence feeling even the slightest vibrations. The worms exploded from the ground underfoot surprising the lot. Fight on. The worms were not used to their dinner fighting back and the hobos quickly laid two of the worms low. The third retreated. The gang celebrated victory for a moment until Steve, of all people, pointed out that worm still alive and hex not cleared. This sunk in for a few moments, they would have to chase after it. They were not quite motivated to do such yet and instead decided to set up camp and gut the other two worms in hopes of buried loot. The larger of the two slain worms did indeed have a gut full of treasure. There was much rejoicing.

The First Days of Winter (Session 194)

SESSION 194: The First Sign of Winter

Time flies with Razmuth and he offers an exchange for the resolution of a problem but he is a tricky bugger and leaves the offer to our hobos. Days later Hobo groups meet up.

Day 63– Continued (13.19- 0304 – Razmuth the Trader): Conversation finally moved onto trade. Razmuth shared that he was something of a problem solver. He did things somewhat differently, “Tell me of your problem and then present me with what you consider is worth a solution”. Once Sasha reminded Steve that the problem was getting in and out of the ‘treasure chasm’ the thinking caps still didn’t come out. Well this caused some confusion for Steve and his pal sloth. Saff simply did not care. Nara had no sense of limitation and just wanted to give while the rest of the crew being hired guns did not have control of the purse strings. Leaving Steve, Sloth and Nara to present the offering may have resulted in a gross overpayment. Razmuth collected the ‘offer’ and went into his wagon returning a few minutes later returned with a handful of items to resolve the chasm challenge. Steve was happy and that was good enough. The rest of the evening passed pleasantly and with the morning the nine explorers parted ways with Razmuth the Trader.

Day 64- Cold & Clear (13.19- 0304à12.20- 0706): The day quickly become cooler as the group continued west. The first clear sign of winter manifested today. A pack of winter wolves, the size of horses with glorious silver and white hides. They however were evil as fuck and weren’t berserk at the prospect of eating humans and such. The pack was six animals in size and they went hard upon us with fang and freezing breath. The battle was tough and the party took a beating. For the following reasons the group would end their travels in this hex today: Steve would be able to harvest four pelts two of which would be immaculate and worth a mint, the wolves appeared to have both been here for some time and had a voracious appetite for humanoid flesh resulting in treasure (gems and jewelry) being strewn about the sub-hex.

Day 65- Clear & Crisp (12.20- 0706/0606/0705/0806): Back to work and more spiders. A trio of giant black widows along with some coinage a decent day.

Day 66- Moderate Rain & Wind (12.20-0806/0704/0605/0704): A bunch of things happened today. Firstly, they encountered a business of giant weasels that wanted nothing to do with an army of murderhobos. Secondly, a sub-hex along the river that was afflicted with a black sickness that immediately began to inflict a plague upon all that tread through the area. Thirdly, and finally, the exploration group reunited with Bimbles and his construction and defence crew at the ferry construction site.
