Fulla Head Murder (Session 195)

SESSION 195: Lots of Heads but no Brains

Aside from a few weird things and walking into a noted danger zone exploration continued in the lands adjacent to Gormandia.

Day 66- Continued - Moderate Rain & Wind, Day 67 - Clear (12.20-0704): After meeting up with Bimbles, Rammer, Gorblat’s mercenary band and the work crew at the ferry site along the Blood River the group hung out for a few days resting and planning. Bimbles was apprised of the blighted/cursed hex immediately to the south and he began contemplating a ritual of purification when he was not tired up with the preparational works and setting up camp.

Day 68 – Clear (12.20-0704/0703/0704/0705/0606/0505/0406/0306/0307/0408)With the morning the exploration team once more set out. Bimbles promised to get to the ritual as soon as he could and Rammer gave the gang the bird, for reasons of his personal amusement. The group did a lot of moving back and forth to clean up some of the northern extent of the hex before making time through a bunch of cleared sub-hexes and getting back to work along the river. It was an easy day. They noted a large association of pines along the far bank, came upon Razmuth the Trader moving north along the river and caught a sniff of what could only be considered the acrid scent of bird feces that seemed to have also come from the other side of the river. Something to note for later investigation.

Day 69 – Clear (12.20 – 0408//0407/0506/0507/0608): Another hazardless day. A subhex of thistle that is good for resource extraction was found. During the later portion of the afternoon in a shady portion of the forest they stumbled upon a Stirgi foraging group (8). The hobos gave them a bit of a scare but then we were recognized by Milford, the fellow that had been rescued from the troglodytes. Milford and company explained that they were looking specifically for a variety of mushrooms for ‘alchemical’ reasons and did not want to dilly dally for too long as they were further from home than they normally are comfortable with. Before parting ways they did provided a cautionary note regarding what appeared to be large worm-like holes and such to the east in the neighbouring hex.

Day 70 – Solar Eclipse (12.20-0608/0607/0707 à13.20-0205): Weird things were afoot. The day began with a protracted complete solar eclipse. Was this an echo of Carcosa or some other type of grim portent or just general weirdness? The answer would not be found today. After hiding like primitives during the celestial occurrence they continued to blunder through the forest discovering a grove of valuable yellow wood before walking right into the neighbouring hex where Razmuth had warned of something dangerous. It was a ten-headed poison spitting hydra that grew replacement heads with shocking quickness. The fight was dogged but the hobos finally took care of things once the oil and flame curtailed the beasts regenerative powers. After the battle and like the money grubbers they are the hobos tore through the hydra’s lair hex determined to discover a commiserate reward for the battle. Nope. This hydra appeared to be exclusively feeding on mundane woodland creatures. The bones of deer were found in abundance and nary a one carried a coin pouch. With this deep disappointment the crew decided to camp for the evening even if it was early, Sasha was convinced that the hydra lair would be about as safe as it gets.

Day 71 – Cloudy (13.20-0205/0206/0305/0406/0306): With every day the signs of Fall were becoming more prominent. Leaves were beginning to change colour and the days started were notably becoming cool. Today was simply a pleasant Fall day of forest exploration. Signs of deer continue to be omnipresent but aside from that and other woodland creatures going about their business it was a hazard free day. Additionally, one of the sub-hexes likely a long lost farm there was a acres of tobacco plants – money in the bank!

Day 72 – Clear & Crisp )13.20-0306/0307/0407/0408/0507/0707): No monsters but there was a sub-hex dominated by a lovely plant with red flowers. Unfortunately they were a more hostile form of stinging nettle that had a contact poison. These got onto the ‘burn it with fire list’ for future eradication. The rest of the day was smooth and easy.

Day 73 – Cloudy w/Moderate Rain (13.20-0707/0607/0506/0606): The day began with rain, just enough to make the rest of the day damp and irritating. They moved east looking for ‘worm sign’ as observed by Milford and Company. It took a while but they found it. The home of a trio of giant white worms (caecilia). Relatives of purple worms, enormous but devoid of the deadly stinger of their even larger cousins. The subhex was riddled with large earthen furrows. Sasha began tracking the subterranean hunters but they were keenly aware of the hobo presence feeling even the slightest vibrations. The worms exploded from the ground underfoot surprising the lot. Fight on. The worms were not used to their dinner fighting back and the hobos quickly laid two of the worms low. The third retreated. The gang celebrated victory for a moment until Steve, of all people, pointed out that worm still alive and hex not cleared. This sunk in for a few moments, they would have to chase after it. They were not quite motivated to do such yet and instead decided to set up camp and gut the other two worms in hopes of buried loot. The larger of the two slain worms did indeed have a gut full of treasure. There was much rejoicing.
