With Heavy Thump, a Lifeless Lump (Session 289)

SESSION 289:  Once More Back in Liwil, Once More Back in Trouble

After a little bit of office work they return to the wilds and learn that the forest still slithers.

Day 260 Continued thru 262(CampàLiwil): The ride did not take long arriving with good time before lunch. Steve, Biff and Rhags were stoked. It was tough to tell with BoB until she showed to be rather vigorous in her consumption. Ding-We conferred with Chung-Li as the elf pointed out he was ready to earn his keep. He may only have one leg but, he has many plans.

A squad of riders were sent out to collect Felix and Mason, the ancient dwarven script was deciphered and the chest was magically opened. Six days was the forecasted round trip. There was mention of a besieged or imperilled dwarven city. Lots of antiquated dwarven electrum collected, along with a provocative potion of human control, without any unwanted poisoning.

The Dwarven runes presented a new, but ancient, lure to adventure:  Having fled Gunderholfen in search of our brothers of the rolling hills beyond the black teeth. We have been harangued by orcs and worse for weeks pushing us south. Rock-Nar has fallen and our maps destroyed. We have found a cave to hold off the enemies. We will fortify it and build a temple to Kazakh-Duhn. Our mission has failed we can only leave our record if one day our kin find us. May Gunderholfen survive (translated with magic, thanks Chung-Li!).

Day 263(LiwilàCampà15.23/0505): Under light snow they returned to the base camp. After a quick recommissioning they pressed back into the neighbouring hex to continue the clearing prior to another delve into the defiled Dwarven fort.

In the sub-hex NW of the stone garden they ran into a very angry snake momma and daughter. It looks like they noticed the two deceased family members outside their lair and went looking for vengeance. Hargcarath was the mother a true greater medusa with a twenty foot serpentine back half. The daughter was Zazia with a wonderful human form except for the damnable snake salad hairdo. The hobos had the advantage of distance to undermine the petrification and then luck decided to show up to mess with accuracy of the ladies deadly arrows. It still took a lot of running about and a mess of obscuring mist but the medusas were terminated with prejudice. Steve collected and stowed away Hargcarath’s still writhing head as the rest of the gang looted the bodies. The latter act, an endevour they had completely neglected to complete with the two previous slain snake daughters. Bummer. The two had both very nice jewelry and items of note.

Even though the fight appears to be another cake walk it was not. They fell back to camp.

Day 264(Campà15.23/0505/0606àCamp): Today the snow picked up. Ding-We cared not and demanded they get right back to clearing the hex. Within the first sub-hex they stirred up a mischief of giant rats that they unceremoniously evicted from a hole in which they were denning. Inside was a very old and mostly rotten chest spilling thousands of copper coins dating back to the Skeldrane empire. Biff was not above spending the time getting the coin into his troll head of holding, “What? This will buy me and BoBby a night of drinking”. The wizard, and Rhagnar, were rewarded with discovering and falling into a sinkhole.

This commotion attracted the attention of a pair of roving and hungry cave bears. Rhags ended up getting pummeled and nearly crushed to death by a bear that had taken him to the ground. A beating, or two, was taken before the huge bears were defeated. That was enough for today. It had been snowing all day and the light was quickly fading. They made a hardline back to base.

Day 265(Campish): On this cold and cloudy day Biff & BoB were sent back to Liwil to collect Mason and tell Felix to start investigating the homicides that occurred in the mining camp beyond the walls.
