Operation Troll Extermination: To the Victor Go the Spoils (Session 173)

SESSION 173: Operation Troll Extermination Pt.4: Soldiers Pay (late MAR 2022)

Standing in the wreckage. The troll enclave had been eradicated. Our hobos immediately moved to burning the corpses to ensure no regenerative mayhem. Afterwards they grabbed a rest and healed the critically wounded. It was around this time that they realized that grossly destructive magics spare nothing. The elaborate decorations worn by the executive troll branch had been incinerated along with the green owners. Yup, fireballs mess shit up. Afterwards they moved to the giants corral with dreams of golden sheckles. Nope. The things these gigantic morons hold valuable can be categorically called garbage. The hobos moved on to the main mound and the home of the leaders of the colony.

There was a chest and some assorted piles along with the bedding area, a pit and a generally foul stench. Eventually the pit attracted some attention. It was a pit of death the owl-folk that we had seen days before were a charnel mass within. Atop was a once lovely female now impaled with a rudimentary spear. Ding-We elected to detect life, she was still alive. Carla made haste into the pit in hopes of saving the girl. She began calling forth the sacred light of TMB. Things were not what they seemed. The girl was actually the vile green hag that the scouts had previously encountered. The hag made the most of Carla’s lawful tendencies and buried her vile claws deep into Carla’s flesh. All sorts of mayhem ensued as the hag disappeared from sight and  ran roughshod over the hobos. Her speed was maddening until Rhagnar freaked out and buried his spear into her head, somehow she refused to succumb, and then Saffron was finally able to break the hags defences and put her into a state of confusion. The bitch, in a moment of clarity, realized that there were too many opponents and made a run. Supernatural speed is challenging to deal with and Saff nuts or not had zero interest in pursuing. The hag would be an opponent for another day. It is a boon to have nemeses, if you ask this DM.

The gang moved onto the looting phase finally. There was an interesting assortment of goods and valuables.  They then moved onto rummaging the remaining troll holes until eventually returning to the giants stables. A significant portion of the cattle had been collected while the hobos were screwing around but there was still ten head remaining to satisfy Ding-We’s master plan. The hobos returned to camp, both the journey and the evening were uneventful probably a side effect of the major military operation.

The following morning they set out for Helix. A cloudy and thankfully quiet trek. Back in town Ding-We immediately began rallying the forces. The time is upon us, load the ship we will bring her to the water! The Captain took his orders to the crew and final preparations began for the long march to the Blood River.

That evening Carla and Ding-We sat down with Steve to discuss his pending promotion to duke in waiting. “But what did I do?” “No, Steve promotions are good” “Oh, what did I do?” “You have become a Duke and now require a suitable kingdom” “Wow!” “Indeed” “But what do I do?” “Well you chop up monsters for stew of course” “I like stew” “So do we” pipped up Brett & Germaine immediately seeing an opportunity aligning with the newest Duke of the North – Hobo Steve the Superhero. Further discussion that evening divided our troupe into two groups, those going south and those ready to begin build an empire based on the advancement of culinary excellence.

It was time for the next move. Rations, wagons, tents and armaments were first as preparations commenced for the great trip back to Denethix and the founding of Steve’s domain - Gormandia!

Elapsed Campaign Time

393 days at beginning of session (also applies to recuperation)

Join us for session One-Hundred-and-Seventy-Four when we ask the questions:

Where is that hag?

Is Steve a puppet or an actual measure of the intellect of actual leaders?

Can Steve attract the greatest chefs of the unknown lands to his kingdom?

Are there any great chefs out here in the wilds and how many of these recipes include humanoids and will Steve care if they are well seasoned?

Are Brett & Germaine possibly the gourmet creature chefs we are looking for?

Will they become the most notorious kobolds in all history?

What evil lurks within the future boundaries of Gormandia?

What evil slurps underneath the waters of the Blood River?

But first, what hell will rain down upon our hobos getting to the starting point?
