Moving Towards the EMPIRE OF MURDER (Session 174)

SESSION 174: Breaking up is Hard to do

Ding-We and Carla quickly realized that things were a little more complicated than they had anticipated. They had hope to move the whole army at one time but the two operations (Sailing to Denethix & Establishing Gormandia) were moving at different speeds. The ship was ready along with its crew but the necessities for domain settlement were only in the primordial stages. This discrepancy led to the realization that the operations would be conducted independently. Our hobos were now facing the hard decision of who was doing what. There was much arguing (well, at least between us), confusion and unexpected turns. It took a day or two but it was finally figured reasonably. However there were a shock or three, Team Denethix would be traveling without Carl, Sasha and Boris. Carla and Boris had grown fond of the untamed north it was not as nutty as the Land of a Thousand Towers. Sasha, somewhat to Dinger’s consternation made It clear she really had no interest in a sailor’s life ever again. That was after all how she became trapped for years on other dimensional Swordfish Island.

After three days things were sorted. Team Denethix departed for the Blood River without their ranger but she had been nice enough to map out the journey, best she could. Not knowing when and if Murderhobos Incorporated(tm) would be united once more, tears were shed. Many more from Boris than we would have expected. After watching the legion march off, Steve and his advisors returned to the now spacious barracks to draw up the fledging plans to tame a land. For Gormandia!

Team Gormandia (TG): Steve, Carla, Boris, Nara, Dolec, Gurn, Mason, Felix, Wendul, Willy and Sasha along with Brett & Germaine

Team Denethix (TD): Ding-We, Saffron, Rahgnar, Raul, Bunny, Ramrod, Bimbles, Sloth, Biff, Bob, Charles and Camillus

Day 1 TD: (21.22/20.22/19.22) Thick fog for the march out of the Dutchy of Aerik, uneventful.

Day 2: (19.22/18.23) Diminishing fog into clear. First adjustment in travel velocity as they entered the wilderlands proper. Just prior to dawn the camp was surrounded and attacked by giant wasps. Our hobos quickly learned/ remembered just how fragile the man is when swarmed by 5’ long buzzing insects of murder. Our sailors begin to get a sense of what a hobo’s life is actually like – death fast and easy.

Day 3:(18.23/18.24) Clear. During the evening a scream of a tortured animal was heard. In the morning a scout team was sent to investigate. About ¾ of a mile south of the camp they discovered a sinkhole with webbed animals. They found the source of the evenings disturbance a large mule deer buck, now slowly leaking fluid from its final resting place. Whatever lived in this 40’ sinkhole was not home. Bunny used this chance to loot the joint and was rewarded with golden coins. Returning to camp the rest of the troop had packed up and were ready to move. The rest of the day was uneventful travel.

Day 4: (no travel) They were greeted by a very early season bitter cold (-17 degrees). The crew were not setup for this sort of punishing weather. Rather than risk losing more sailors the group dug in for the day.

Day 5: (18.24/17.24) Clear once more and the temperature swung the 20 or so degrees back to the expected seasonal average. They pressed on into an unexplored hex the deciduous forest with little undergrowth gave way to thick and dark coniferous trees. They elected to move along the edge of the dark forest rather than attempt to work through it as movement would be greatly diminished. During the midday they were ambushed by a trio of exceptionally aggressive giant black widows that sprung from the overgrown dark forest. Two were slaughtered outright but one was polymorphed into a rather large bovine. There would be good eating for a couple of days. Afterwards Ding-We couldn’t control the need for treasure. A portion of the team entered into the coniferous jumble following the silken strands left by the Three Sisters. They cut their way in and after a period they began discovering the hanging feed bags left by the spiders. Long since dead and drained of juice. Corpses of assorted species were cut down and looted. An hour or so later the activity attracted the attention of an ancient 7-legged widow. This arachnid was of unusual size and showed its age as mushrooms and things had sprouted from its carapace. She hit hard and with stealth as it was the spiders home in which we had stumbled but this was no group of squishy sailors this was a band of murderhobos that were advancing towards becoming murderkings. By the time they had finally returned to their retainers it was quickly growing dark. For safety reasons they pressed on hard for another hour before setting camp, not wanting any further spider related encounters overnight.

Day 6: (17.24/16.24/15.24) Cloudy. The band made good time and travelled without incident but there was a discovery. A mushroom shaped and well dilapidated hermit hut. It came with some stench. Looking closer, inside, there was a mound of copper pieces along with some scales and such laying about. Whatever that lived here was currently out. The copper created no excitement and so they pressed on.

Day 7: (15.24) Moderate rain and wind (31 mph). Today they moved headlong into the wind and were punished with reduced progress.

Day 8: (15.24/14.24) Clear. The forest began to give way to hills we were only a couple days away from Liwil. A group of black bears were encountered that Bimbles elected to parlay with. They were more curious than anything and after being offered the remaining fresh beef they happily gave some info regarding their home hex. Nothing ground breaking but what do you expect I guess. Firstly there are lots of yummy pheasants to be consumed and to the south of the present location men are digging for shiny rock. The hobo pressed on for a couple more hours before setting camp. They estimated that Liwil was less than 6 miles to the north.
