Dead End Murder (Session 124)

 SESSION 124: Dead End  (4Oct20)

Should we rush them Orcus-ites? Yes. No. Yes. No. After some very tedious back and forth it was decided that it probably was not to our advantage to attack while the bad guys had their guard up. Also we didn’t really want to keep testing the Minoton. Instead our hobos fell back to the stairwell to the north.

The stairs descended to an empty foyer with a number of directional choices. We went south and came to an antechamber that contained a throne decorated in praise of Athena. It was surrounded by scorch marks and had an incinerated corpse in the seat. After a modicum of investigating (maybe we needed Felix after all?) it was concluded that the corpse was a cultist and Sloth should sit in the throne – reckless bastards. Nothing happened. Hmm. No fire of the gods. Get out of there Sloth! Ahh. Next up, because we fear no reasonable thing, was our green girl Carla. This time a golden light enveloped the throne and when Carla arose from her seat she was wiser. For whatever it was worth. Feeling spicy we pressed on.

Into a hallway containing eight crypts. A host of ghastly undead entities and a crystalline golem that then culminated with an iron golem. This battle, occurred overtop the final resting place of Dresta, a mighty warrior of Athena, was potentially far deadlier than anticipated. The hobos caught on to this in the nick of time and figured out the iron behemoth prior to mortalities but not by much. The reward was stupendous. Dresta was interred with weapon, armour and glorious ancient gems. We were a little beaten up after this sequence but there was still time in the day and with no further to go we backed tracked to the throne room.

Something was amiss. We could smell rot. Just barely visible was a group of restless dead, leaving the other end of the chamber and unaware of our presence. Hulking minotaur carcasses in the rear and what appeared to be more conventional zombies in the front. Ding-We and Raul saw this as a fine and fitting opportunity to light the fuckers up. Get it done and get done quick. Electricity shot forth from their fingertips. Decaying minotaur carcasses exploded covering the place in gore. The others however were little perturbed by the electrical blast and pulled out wicked bows as they spread out like spiders upon all available surfaces and launched back a volley of black arrows behind the remaining, and charging, undead minotaur. Ding-We this time blasted back with a cone of cold. Again they cackled back from their broken black throats, hobo magic seemed useless. Our hobos had already taken a good beating today and these guys (ju-ju zombies for those in the know) looked to be some tough hombres. Ding-We finally realized that we needed to regroup. This called for a classic tactic, in order to stop the ju-ju from gleefully perforating from out of the blackness ahead.

            “Web and retreat!”
