SESSION 273: Siege on the Gangrenous Pt. 22 – Spinning the Wheels
The rewards of planlessness are thin indeed
Day 208 Continued (Spire): Raul continued to drive the hex-crab southwards until he slipped from the controls into sleep’s embrace. No one else were really keen to take the control stick after watching the mega-dungeon explorer getting zapped numerous times. Driving the thing took a soft touch and some luck. With the closing of the gate and wholesale slaughter of the druids the rest cycle passed without entanglements.
Day 209 (Spire): The crab was mostly stationary today. The great vacuum could be heard and felt in the living floor of the spire. Somewhat rested but still roughed up eyes turned to the mushrooms. “Well they are magic but they also are shrooms”, was Wendul’s assessment as he proffered one to Boris. “What the heck, ain’t easy to poison a badass like me”, Boris gobbled one back. He received a mild amount of healing but he was left feeling a little dopey. “Lets go sword swingers we murder not make think stink”, the dwarf tossed the frontliners the rest of the shrooms.
Realizing that they were still ragged and holing up in the fleshy spire was likely a gamble they decided that risky or not a return to Jones Town was the smartest move.
Sasha warned that it would be a hard trek that required urgency to complete before it was well into the evening. Ramrod was so keen to return to anything that resembles an urban environment he stepped in front of Sasha as they stepped back into the pink forest, “Hey what do you think you are doing city boy? Yer gettin’ aheada yerself”. The gimp fell back as the real outdoors expert took point. This quickly proved advantageous.
The ranger spotted a trio of floating eyeball monsters. They seemed to be a little aimless in their floating and showed no signs of observation. Boris and Raul were quickly feeling a bit sicky, “Three!!! Nope. No way. Get us outta here”. The ranger course corrected hastily. The avoided the things. This however did not come without a cost. The avoidance would cost them an hour or so and that was before they ended up running into a twisted and angry pink tree.
What sorts tree would use an axe?
It had been a treant at one time but the forest had changed it. Contaminated it and made it wicked and hungry for flesh. With surprise it laid into the mob as a pair of adjacent trees also joined the fray. The tree’s brain must have been rotten like the rest of undermining the effectiveness of its branchy attacks. It did not take to long for it to be chopped down. The peripheral attacks ended with its defeat. Cleanup and treasure hunt, the latter of which came up as butkus. Sasha yelled at the disappointed herd to get back in line. The journey was barely started and they were way behind.
Getting out of the forest and back into the crab back wasteland Sasha drove them hard. They were lucky to not attracted any attention but by the time they got to the ferry it was well passed closing time. They would be camping outside the relatively safe city limits.
Day 210 (Jones Town Ferry): The night had passed without incident and the crab must have sucked something prickly up yesterday as it shook and sundered as it scratched itself. This would reduce the ‘where the hell are we now?’ once they get back down to driving the crab. With dawn the ferry could be seen belching black smoke as it fired up for another service day.
The hobos packed up camp and proceeded to lounge about the dock as they awaited their ride back to Jones Town.
