Murder Complete, Now Where is the Gold? (Session 210)

SESSION 210: Where is our Pay?

With the forces of giant-kind largely obliterated beyond being wandering nuisances we look for the proverbial pot of gold.

Sweetums sez "Take the gold, I gots the treasure"

Day 127 that will end soon (12.20/ 0305): Once more standing before giant corpses our gang largely move to looting. Some others remembered that there were seven dwarves strapped to the dead fire giants. Yes, one was squished but that doesn’t mean we don’t count the poor popped little bugger. The leader was Bixcar and he was both grateful and ready to get back home. Ding-We did not really understand the latter point and this would be a point of contention with him for quite some time. The gang were now sorely in need of rest but a few things required address first.

Back to the marshalling area, there was now somewhere around two-hundred orcs milling about. All parties were collected and the migration to the upper floor began. Returning to the great hall the orcs were offered food looting privileges if they cleaned the corpses out of the building. Ding-We, of course, attempted to get more out of them. Like an infinite love humans sorta thing they had no interest in becoming Guinea pigs in some sort of species interaction experiment. They agreed to go home and not enter the lands of man but they also wanted to be left alone. With bags full of meat and armed with assorted weapons looted from the bugbears, OshKosh and his people began the journey back home- “You ok for not an Orc”. We presumed that was probably as close to ‘thank-you’ the Orcish language had to offer. The six remaining dwarves wanted to utilize this time to also vacate the premises. Once more Ding-We attempted to find an alternative course of action for them. They eventually came to a short-term agreement. Dinger had ideas for them and was having a hard time grokking their overwhelming need to return home.

The group migrated to the hill giants chief’s war room to rest as we finally try to end this never ending day. Enter the hinderance. As the gang approached the target chamber a hunting party of giants re-entered the steading from the outer yard. Four giants, one with a stag over his shoulder, were on alert after discovering the pile of dire wolves and the mutilated remains of HG Tom Arnold. They immediately began hurling boulders before the clash transitioned to direct combat. It took a little elbow grease but the hobos got it done and came out with more gold and a very tasty stag. Steve was very excited to dress and cook the glorious beast.

Moving on. The mob began settling into the chief’s chamber and finally we would put this day to an end just as the Winter sun began to rise.

Day 128 A New Day! (12.20/ 0305): That afternoon, we once more arose to loot loot loot. Falling back to the adjacent chambers they rummaged the rooms for magical goodies and gold. Nothing was detected and so they returned to the not-so-secret door in the Chief’s chamber and opened it up. Beyond was a stairwell and a stack of logs. They were going to simply go downstairs but a final look at the logs generated some curiosity. Looking through the pile a number of scroll tubes were discovered. One of the tubes contained a couple of documents. The first was a letter providing instructions, in giantish, for an upcoming raid on Liwil signed by a being named Esvandra. The second was the plans for the this stronghold, interestingly it did not make any mention of the dungeon level. There was some head scratching as to the origin of the documents prior to pushing in into the dungeon.

The stairs led to a ‘Z’ shaped corridor that opened into a large chamber behind a portcullis. A little strong arming later the group moved into the chamber. There was the glint of gems in the opposite corridor just adjacent to another corridor. Some creeping and inspecting later the gang found out that a 4-pack of mad manticores were contained in the adjacent chamber. This resulted in the obligatory grand melee. Afterwards they pressed into the lair and found another chamber and it was a treasure room full of chests and boxes. Gems, ivory and assorted coins the gang were feeling good until Ding-We queried – “Where is the gold? Giants love gold there must be more. I know it” grumbled Ding-We as he dug through his pack looking for a mostly forgotten wand. “Ah, there it is!” pulling out the wand of metal detection, “Now where is the gold?”. We shall see how this plays out.
