Have You Seen Me? (Session 230)

 SESSION 230: Plague Rages

We return to the other underground realm to battle Dread Lord Cassidy once more. The Captain proves he is a tenacious husk.

Day 159 Continued (12.20/0605): Chase was given. Cassidy fell back beyond a pair of huge inscribed doors. The gang got held up by a couple of things, a riddle and perhaps more importantly the doors had locked behind the dread Captain. During this time Carla pulled out a handful of sticks, transforming them into obedient snakes and sent them under the door in search of their opponent. The riddle was resolved with shocking expediency, the door took a little more magic to get it to cooperate.

The tanks pressed in and Steve triggered a trap and was wanged by a scythe. The chamber was below the door and dropped 5’ onto a sandy mound within a larger chamber with eight or so inches of standing water. The stale air didn’t smell so good either – salted pork and ozone. Very weird and unpleasant when you really think about it.

They could see the northern and western extents of the chamber but the south extended into darkness presumably where Cassidy would be found if still present. More hobos began dropping into the chamber as the tanks fanned out and crept south. The bulk of the chamber was covered in about 8” of water and this gave a hint of things about to happen. The water began to roll towards our troops. Three jellyfish swarms followed by a humungous rotting jelly blob the shallow water affording them some mobility but it was limited. Carla began to call down the cleansing fire of TMB. Ding-We, the currently flying, activated a wand, blasting the slime bags with a cone of cold that terminated the jellys. Carla had to adjust her target for the column of flame hoping to get lucky and hit the darkness hidden Dread Pirate or at least reveal his location. Carla was not lucky enough to hit him but they all saw him and the full extent of the chamber for a few moments. They pushed forward. From the darkness a ‘horking’ noise could be heard. Cassidy launched an acidic loogy at Ding-We – “Yowch I’m melting!” Bimbles responded by activating the water jug to spray. Dolec tripped giving Bunny a perfect opening to bullseye the husk with an arrow. Whatever was calling the shots in Cassidy’s head decided that being cornered and without backup was bad situation. The arrow now embedded deep in its chest most certainly pushed this thought process along.. The Captain made a dash through the hobo line to the northern end of the chamber where he opened a secret door and took his first few steps towards escape. The hobos were totally not going to allow this to happen. Carla once more dropped a column of flame, this time she did not miss. Cassidy was engulfed and finished. The outer shell, that which once was the dread pirate broke open and the now boiled jellyfish oozed out in a most vile fashion – victory.

Whew. That took a little work. Wounds were bandaged and then the chamber was searched. The secret door opened to a descending stairwell that ended in a wall masoned stone wall. Within the chamber there was a large diamond encrusted stone sarcophagus, which should have been Cassidy’s final resting place, there was a layer of slime within and the telltale slime trail out of it from the huge jelly blob. The gang did their depth test and Bunny was certain that there was unaccounted space. A little searching and probing revealed a hidden bottom that held a pirate captain’s treasure. Full of coin, ivory, ambergris and a few interesting items. The easy one was two quickly identified potions. The hard one was a horrendous mask, a blackened skeletal piece that left Bunny very uncomfortable. She would not touch the thing. The clerics gathered around the sarcophagus to deliberate. They quickly were at loggerheads. In agreeance that the thing was  ‘bad’ but what to do about it covered all points. Mason wanted to destroy it now. Carla did not want to commit to an action that might leave them at a deficit to complete the mission at hand. Bimbles, well he was as he is and ensured the debate stayed without consensus. They argued for some time until Carla finally came up with something of a solution. She would commune with TMB, hoping to gain both clarity and direction.

It was confirmed that the divine are always happy to be fed sacrifices, the mask did not have a larger part to play in the completion of the mission and that if they did destroy it they could still complete the primary mission of defeating the Sanguine Fathoms incursion. “Alright let me smash the wretched thing for Yrrrg right blood now!”, Mason was still acting like the piss and vinegar filled Lama that he was. Carla was able to convince him to defer the action until the mission was complete, “When we are done we shall return to this tomb and you can smash the thing into oblivion. Until then let us leave it. Reseal the sarcophagus and lock it with magicks”. Mason grudgingly agreed and Ding-We wizard locked it and then followed up with a wicked glyph just to make sure.

Finally, they once more were on the move back to where they started this session. It was time to pull off the bust above the entrance to the tomb and to check the statue room. The bust removal would take some time and make some noise. We know what that means. But. Before that happened the other hobos discovered a magical gem on the statue. We went back to deliberating. Back at the bust Steve and Dolec were working to Rahgnar’s direction. Only the dwarf saw the ghost of Luvous rise up to say “Hello”.

Well it scared the crap out of Rhags and almost caused his heart to stop. He ran, hard. Rhags steamrolled Carla and then Mason before Charles was able to wrestle him to the ground and Bimbles was able to annul the fear affect. By this time Stevie and Dolec had the bust. The gang then carefully made their way back to the Engineer’s chamber. Ulenmahr was ecstatic when he saw the bust, “We will complete the Hellrazor. We shall sail once more my Captain!”. They wisely elected not to discuss his Captain. The skeleton thanked them profusely and then tossed Rhagnar his ‘magic ring’, “May it do something…magical. Now please go forth elsewhere I have very important and delicate work to do”.  That was good enough for our gang, one side quest down one to go.

They returned to the trap door to the grotto with the intention of collecting Luvous’s remains. Bunny rolled out the rope, descended and then opened up the folding boat awaiting the others to make their way down.

They were going to make the most of this day (low tide cycle).
