In Search of Knowledge & Hotpants (Session 131)

SESSION 131: A Little Rest and Research Before Plunging Back In

Back in Helix. We got up to and in to stuff. The details, right, they are a bit unclear but I warned them. I most certainly warned them that bourbon sours the memory. So we shall recant in the broad strokes. Information or more precisely clues was the cause of our group lollygagging in Helix beyond a basic recharge.

They hit the church and the sage. Rooting through the archives and ancient scripts looking for a devastation that may have plagued the lands generations ago. Hoping to find a clue as to what could be beyond the great gate of Nergal. There was a lead, reference to something known as the “Black Shadow”. Poisoning waters and eradicating settlements. With Muzzahs’s help a term or possibly a name was discovered, that of an ancient evil, the Ossithrax Pejorative. There was also stories of a malicious black dragon. Perhaps these were one in the same but we could not conclusively say. However this period of time is after the fall of Nergal, centuries in fact, and so it is possible that a dragon could have made a home in Barrowmaze without starting a war with an even greater power. Dragons like all things do pass and these stories come from beyond the mists of reasonable time. Such a creature would surely have passed ages ago.

We now had something to work with, it may be a long shot but it was something. With that in the pocket we were set to do another delve.

The trip back was interrupted by a couple of challenges first a pack of abnormally large and frosty wolves and then a random gaggle of trolls. They were both a bit challenging but we were on mission for Ygg, no stopping us. Yet.

Returning to Barrowmaze we worked our way in, silently, and proceeded to the central north section that had not been fully explored. Crypts, corridors and hidden secrets eventually led us to the lost crypt of Pinto the Pyromancer but first it was the crypt of Mahle Royc.

“Knock and Pull to Enter the Crypt of Mahle Royc”. We had discovered a hint to this imminently to be released Indiana Jones trap but it had been forgotten. A winding narrow passage led uphill to a sarcophagus. The final resting place of Mahle Royc. All that was left was his wonderful plate armor but we got that later as the trap had sprung. A boulder fell from the ceiling and began rolling. We ran. Some made it out others did not and enjoyed a good rolling over. Healing and looting followed. After which we kept on creeping to our next crypt.

Getting back to Pinto. It looked like a(nother) treacherous tomb.

“Yup, nothing funny going on here” – Steve the Smart Guy

“Right” – Sloth the Other Smart Guy

“Nope with a frog on it” – Saffron the Mad but Not Stupid

“Ugh” – Bunny the One in the Front

And so Burglar Bunny made her across the fiery pit of peril to the crypt of Pinto the Pyromancer. She got both scorched and blasted but she also made it back with three most interesting items. Pinto’s spellbook, ring and his staff. Ding-We was giddy. Steve declared a sausage break so we all took a fifteen….
