SESSION 180: The C(h)arnel Sepulchre II
Day 18 (14.22/ 08005): The Crypt
A hexagonal chamber that extended to the north and south as well as an iron door to the east. All of this was under the baleful gaze of a large bronze statue of a grim warrior that radiated intense evil and magic. The hobos were convinced it was a golem or about to be animated statue. They committed a series of actions to trigger it to action but all it did was observe. The mob came to the conclusion It was not going to attack and got down to the business of inspecting the chamber. The two wings each housed six bronze sarcophagi that held the mummified remains of the Xavadar clan. The evil statue had a hidden, and forgotten, secret compartment at the base of the statue. Inside were the four collected white sapphires required in Ivgah’s necromantic ritual. After checking two of the sarcophagi and found nothing other than mummified bodies they decided to investigate the iron bound door to the east.
Beyond was lightless corridor that lead to Ivgah the Necromancer’s lair. This was determined the hard way. Ivgah let loose a lightning bolt before revealing his mad self. Well not visually as he had put up a line of darkness before his chamber that Bimbles had to deal with first. Once negated another sickly green hexagonal chamber could be seen. Ivgah writhed upon his bone throne in the centre of the chamber within a glowing pentagram – shouting obscenities and tossing spells . A the gang got closer a gross but familiar stench of rotting flesh was noted. “BARF”, even as a sexually deviant dwarf Rhags had a little pukey in his mouth. It seems that Ivgah had attendants, Porn-Ghasts dressed in the rotting lacy vestiges of provocative evening adventure wear. The tanks rushed to the breach to hold back the rot-whores while Raul, Ding-We and Bimbles hurled retaliatory magics back at Ivgah. The Necromancer’s defense was undermined by his incessant need to hurl threats along with generally nonsensical nutter goobah gahbah. Skeletal arms, clutching and scratching, arose from the corridor to hinder hobo movement and allowing the freak to loose another lightning bolt. It was effective in burning some eyebrows but the dude was just too crazy to really participate in a serious battle. Ding-We finished things with a fire ball that engulfed the chamber. Ivgah and his porn-ghasts were cinder, so was a bunch of other things including some loot but they couldn’t afford to eat another mass damage spell. They looted what they could.
Ding-We and Raul looked at the smoldering remains of Ivgah’s spell book and lamented, “those hands coming out of the floor was pretty cool” “Yup, seemed like a good way to stop a horde of rushers..” “Bound to find another necro, sooner or later” “True, we might even remember this day” “Maybe” “Maybe indeed”. After the looting was completed they fell back to the mummy chamber and spent the time to pull out all twelve mummified members of the Xavadar clan and Bimbles conducted last rights. This resulted in a benevolent spectral encounter as the spirits of the family briefly appeared to thank the hobos for release and to bestow a blessing before finally moving beyond this plane of existence. This seemed like a good time to have a rest.
Feeling good the gang fell back to the statuary. And the final set of doors and what is obviously a false tomb. The door opened to 20’ foyer that lead to an archway opening into a large square chamber. Another wall-smash trap was detected. This time Sloth and Biff dragged in one of the marble Xavadar statues and put it in the ‘kill zone’ to, hopefully, ensure that they would not be trapped. They moved in. Entered the tomb, saw a bunch of coffins guarded by another statue of the angry fighty guy (made of stone). This time, when Sloth and Rhags approached the statue did animate simultaneously with the triggering of the smashy trap and the presentation of extra-limbed omega ghouls from the coffins deeper in the chamber. The statue was 12’ tall and armed with a number of things beyond the prominent oversized (15’) halberd that it swung in a huge arc in preparation of slicing and dicing numerous hobos with each swing.
BUT this would all be resolved next session as we had to stop somewhere and this seemed like a tense enough situation.
